Settlement development in Vel'ké Pole, Píla and Radobica
The communities of Vel'ké Pole, Píla and Radobica, as well as Brezova (a former quarter of Vel'ké Uherce) are located in western central Slovakia. The two first named were once German municipalities in the Carpathians, which were founded in the 14th century. However, Radobica has never been a German municipality, but a minority of its inhabitants were of German origin. Brezova was inhabited by the surrounding communities in the 18th century. The former name of Vel'ké Pole was Hochwiesen (German), of Píla, Paulisch (German), of Radobica, Radobitz (German) and Brezova, Birkenhain (German).
