The International Student Symposium on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Implications for People and Planet, held from 18 to 20 November 2024, hosted by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW, Germany), in collaboration with the University of South Africa (Unisa) and the University of Passo Fundo (UPF, Brazil). This symposium provided a platform for students to share their research and ideas on achieving the SDGs. The interactive sessions fostered a spirit of collaboration and mutual learning, as participants engaged with peers and experts in their field.

One of the presentations was delivered by Melon Selly Matcheke, a student in the WoPedyP, project who explored the relationship between Gender Equality and Sustainable Cities, focusing on the livelihoods of women in the Mankweng peri-urban areas. This presentation highlighted the implications of SDGs 5 and 11 and the research emphasized the need to incorporate gender perspectives in urban planning and sustainable development, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in these environments.

The International Student Symposium on SDGs further demonstrated the power of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in driving positive change. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
