The visit came as a surprise, but was most welcome after the official kick-off in Bonn was called off due to a lack of more 2020 SAG-CORE-funded projects. Dr. Erik Hansalek (BMBF, Head of Unit Africa and Middle East) and Dr. Kerstin Silvestre Garcia (DLR-PT, European and International Cooperation: South Africa) paid a visit to the University of Pretoria together with representatives of the German Embassy in Pretoria and used the opportunity to learn about the WoPedyP project and its activities after nearly a year into the project. Unfortunately, only the UP team, including the PhD students, could attend in person and Prof. Dr. Gertrud Schaab joined the meeting from Germany on screen. Of particular interest were the experiences made with the bilateral funding scheme. Also, the research focus, working with women in the study area, was lively discussed.
