Participatory Mapping “mo Makweng”

On 3 July 2023, the South African team of WoPedyP kicked off our weeklong focus group data collection. Each study site had a different number of participants with age ranges varying. The participants were able to orientate themselves very quickly on the map that was laid out in front of them using the landmarks that were shown. When we asked the women to come to the table with the map, there was always a resounding, “ah ke mo Paledi” (ah here is Paledi [mall]). Several discussions then broke out about the nuances of communities with many transient individuals. We learnt a lot about the “Important Places” of the women in Nchechane, Nobody, Mankweng and Ramogale.
